Corrupt boot.ini file results in this error. Please follow these steps to solve it.
Boot with windows xp cd.
Press 'R' to enter recovery console.
Select the windows installation to be repaired.
At the command prompt type
bootcfg /rebuild
exit
Restart the computer.
